Lesson Plan 1

Writing an argumentative lesson plan was enjoyable for me because I wanted to choose a prompt that would inspire actual engagement with students. This was a main reason I chose something relevant today: the topic of social media being used as a primary news source. The sample argumentative lesson plan provided important insight into how a successful lesson plan should be structured to make things clear not only for the student but also for the teacher. It was a strong help in strengthening things that I was lacking, such as adding more specific detail to my opening script and adding more resources for the students to use for their argumentative essays. I thought the opening script of the sample was engaging, supportive, and presented enough necessary information for the student to have a clear idea of what to do without getting overwhelmed. Based on this outline, I did my best to do the same for my lesson plan. I tightened up my own version of the assignment by making sure my tone was inviting instead of just straight-to-the-point. I feel inspired for the future to continue creating plans that leave the student feeling confident about what is expected in their writing.

  1. Teacher: This was a very fun lesson to teach. It was well organized, I liked that you had questions to consider already written out to go over. I will say that the students did have a lot of questions simply because there was so much information. Having the students write out the pros and cons was a very smart move. The article you picked was also very interesting which is great to keep students engaged and intrigued in the work.

Student: This was a very fun lesson. I got to explore so many different topics about social media. I spend so much time on Instagram and TikTok so it was nice to learn about them. I fought that social media apps are good sources of news even though not everything you see on them are true. But everything you see on any news sources are 100% true. This lesson really gave me the strength to voice an opinion and then back it up with evidence.
